The crane operator safely extricated himself from the piece of equipment after it collapsed at approximately 7:25 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, according to the Chelsea Police Department.
No injuries were reported and the crane operator declined any medical attention.
The construction zone, located at 25 6th Street in Chelsea, is close to residential buildings and the silver bus line, making it "extremely lucky" that only a few trees were damaged in the collapse, the Chelsea Police Department said
Residents inside a nearby home were evacuated, WHDH reports, and the construction site remained closed for hours until OSHA inspectors arrived.
The crane will likely remain at the construction site until at least Wednesday, according to WHDH.
There is currently no indication of what may have caused the collapse, police say.
